Okinawa is in a subtropical climate zone and has comfortable weather throughout the year. It is the only Japanese prefecture located in this type of climate. The average annual temperature is 22.4℃ (72.3℉); even during winter, the temperature averages 16℃ (60.8℉) and never dips below 10℃ (50℉).

Typhoon season is June to November. Typhoons account for ~25% of the annual rainfall in Okinawa. Even so, the high season for tourism is from mid-June to mid-September. July is often the most popular time for visits.
